Hello friends! Happy Hump Day! It has been awhile since doing an “Insta Lately” Post. I feel like on Instagram, everyone tries to portray their life as picture perfect. Mine is far from, but I am certainly guilty of taking many, many pictures before posting “thee one.” I actually laugh at myself at how many different directions, angles, lighting and positions I try sometimes for just one little ole pic. It’s ridiculous! Even Casey [my husband] knows to ask me “is this one okay?” before posting a pic on his Instagram. [He is the King of posting THEE WORST pictures of me!! Like sometimes I don’t know if he is actually serious or just wanting to mess with me. And I’ve just learned to give up…sort of.] I do understand why people are super particular of the photos they post. We are essentially “branding” ourselves. And whether or not you have a blog or are representing a certain company, lets be honest…there’s a good majority of you that filters the crap out of your pictures! I personally do not use the editing tools in Instagram. I edit my photos prior to uploading it in the App. Things may have changed with the most recent Instagram update, but I felt that the original filters offered jeopardized the quality of the photos which is why I started using other programs. So here is a list of my TOP PHOTO EDITING APPS:
A Color Story [FREE]
Hands down, this is my current favorite photo editing app. I think all of the filter packages are awesome, but the one I tend to use on practically every picture posted in Instagram is the Flashes of Delight by Glitter Guide, which happens to be one that is only available when purchased.
Facetune has gotten a bit of a bad rap because there are so many people who take extreme advantage of the reshaping/resizing feature, which essentially allows you to manipulate an object [such as a person or specific body part] into looking smaller or larger. There are so many amazing tools this app has to offer though that truly make it worth every penny!
This app used to be my go-to, but for some reason it started crashing on me non-stop, so I deleted it. I recently downloaded it again and haven’t had any issues, but it’s no longer my Number One. If you are searching for an app that is user friendly and offers a ton of different editing options, this is definitely a good choice. The “Lights On” and “Auto Color” are probably the two filters I use most. You can layer the different effects on top of one other. There is a wide range of filter options covering all of your editing needs and if you don’t like one of the edits you made, you can quickly undo it. What’s also great is it allows you to save your editing process to use for future pictures.
This was my original ride or die photo editing app. You can change each individual effect: brightness, sharpness, contrast, tone, etc. It is simple and easy to use.
There are tons of different filters and you can adjust the fade overlay for each one. In addition to the filters, it has a “tools” option where you can individually change the effects [brightness, color, contrast, etc]. I find that a lot of professional photographers favor this App.
Tip: If you want to see how a photo is going to look in your Instagram feed before actually posting it, you can upload your pictures to the VSCOcam library to make sure you like the way it looks!
This app is great for creating collages. It has a ton of layouts and you can purchase additional ones if you wish. You can even add video which is really cool!
Great for adding text to an image.
STAY TUNED FOR A PART TWO WHICH WILL SHOW YOU THE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES AND AN EXPLANATION OF EACH EDIT!
