Hi friends! A few months ago, I shared on Instagram Stories that I was considering CoolSculpting® and also CoolTone™. There were lots of inquiries about it all, so I figured I’d cover here the most popular questions asked. In addition, I wanted to share my personal experience and results. So, let’s get straight to it, shall we?!
[Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional and am not giving any medical advice. I am simply sharing my personal experience.]
What is it?!
CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that freezes fat cells. Once frozen, the fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body in approximately a three month time [give or take]. A full treatment can result in up to 20-25% reduction of fat in the treated area. Treatment can take place under the chin [submental], under the jawline [submandibular], thighs, abdomen, lumbar region, back, under the buttocks, and arms.
Where do you get the procedure done?
I went to a local private aesthetic practice called CoolLines Body Sculpting in Palm Beach, which is part of and in the same building as Hamilton Aesthetics. I truly think where you go is so important!! While the equipment may be identical from practice to practice, the person behind the machine needs to be someone who is educated, knowledgeable, professional, honest, and actually cares about your well being!
If you happen to live in South Florida, I 100% would recommend CoolLines. From the first day that I met with the staff, I felt like they were my long time friends! But most importantly, the office was impeccably clean and I felt beyond safe. I had a consultation with Karina, ARNP who is extremely intelligent, yet explains things so that it can all be easily understood. She was also very up front about setting realistic expectations for myself. And then there’s Gaby, who I need to give a shout out to. Gaby is the Office Manager. She was always so accommodating and flexible with my ever so changing schedule. She’s also friendly and warm, and makes you feel extremely comfortable!
How many treatments did you get, and where?
The area I got treated was the abdomen…right above my belly button and right below it [so my four lowest abs]. I did one treatment of CoolSculpting®, which was broken down into four sessions, or cycles. Each session was 35 minutes each, so was in and out of the office within an hour.
Once my CoolSculpting® treatment was completed, I then did a CoolTone™ treatment, which I’ll elaborate on in a little bit.
Does it hurt?
For a minute, yes. Literally, one minute during the session. The first five-ish minutes feels cold and uncomfortable, and then around minute six or seven I was in pain. After that, I was numb for the remainder of the session and didn’t feel a thing! In fact, I got caught up on some of my Netflix shows, LOL! Also, with each session, the minute of pain lessened. I don’t know if it was because I was mentally prepared and knew what to expect, or perhaps had gotten used to the way it felt.
Immediately after the machine turns off, the treated area is massaged for a few minutes, and that can be somewhat uncomfortable. Per Karina, she said some of her other patients reported that that was the worst part for them. Obviously everyone’s pain threshold will vary, so keep that in mind.
Once I left my appointment, I was able to return to work as if nothing ever happened. I was however bloated and tender for about 25 days after treatment. Remember, the machine freezes your skin, so it takes time to come out of a numbed state. Drinking lots of water and wearing a compression garment like Spanx was recommended to me and helped. Eventually, the swelling and tenderness decreased, and from there it was just a waiting game to see the results!
Does it work?
Yes, it works. I’m no scientist, but from what I was explained, when fat is frozen for an allotted period of time at negative eleven degrees, the fat cells die. The lymphatic system then drains and excretes these dead fat cells via the liver. With that being said, this is NOT a replacement for having a healthy lifestyle…. being active, exercising, eating clean foods.
The ideal candidate would be someone who is perhaps 10 – 40 pounds from their goal weight, and has “an inch to pinch” in their preferred treatment area. An average person requires two to three treatments per area. I only did one treatment, and have no doubt I’d continue to see greater results with more treatments. Please know that CoolSculpting® does not cause weight loss, so don’t expect to magically be 15 lbs lighter!
CoolSculpting® is not ideal for obesity, however, it does reduce the subcutaneous fat in a person’s body. Visceral fat [the fat around the organs] does not respond to CoolSculpting®. Instead, it responds to diet and exercise.
What is it?
CoolTone™ utilizes Magnetic Muscle Stimulation to penetrate through the skin and fat layers to target only the muscle layer, inducing involuntary muscle contractions. The body’s response to these contractions is to strengthen it’s muscle fibers, resulting in improved muscle conditioning. It is completely non-invasive, non-surgical and there is no downtime. It is FDA-cleared for toning, firming and strengthening the muscles of the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. After treatments, these areas are firmer and have a more defined and toned appearance.
ONE 30-MINUTE TREATMENT IS EQUIVALENT TO 20,000 SIT-UPS OR SQUATS!!!
Does it hurt?
No, but it did feel super weird! You kind of feel like the muscle is being detached from your body, so it’s certainly not the most comfortable and pleasant feeling. I would not say I was in pain though.
Cost for both?
Honestly, the cost can vary significantly based on the treatment area and number of treatments needed. It will vary from patient to patient. If I had to throw out a ballpark number on what the average person spends, it would be $2,000 to $4000. Definitely inquire about cost on your own with wherever you choose to get treatment.
Again, if you are located in the South Florida area, reach out to CoolLines. They run monthly specials that apply to both CoolLines and Hamilton Aesthetics. They also have a points program that will allow you to gain credits with each purchase, and then use those credits towards future purchases [procedures, products, injections, fillers].
To be honest, I was a bit nervous that my results weren’t going to be ideal. You see, I received my treatment just before the stay at home order was in place here in Florida. And with that being said, my time in quarantine was definitely not my healthiest. I am guilty of more snacking and drinking alcoholic beverages than usual, combined with less daily activity. Fortunately, I did in fact lose inches of fat in my treated area, and noticed a difference in the way I look and the way I feel in [and out of] clothing. See below!:
Was it worth it?
For me personally, it was all worth it. Growing up my stomach was my favorite physical feature. I naturally always had a flat stomach with some muscle definition, and a small waist line. After my second child was born, my body changed. And while I am committed to exercising and eating well, and doing things “the right way,” I have struggled with reducing the fat in my lower stomach and believe CoolSculpting® accelerated the process of me reaching my goals. I still have a ways to go on my own, but am super happy with where I am right now, and am motivated to get to where I want to be health and fitness wise.
